First time there and food was great. Didn't feel like a cookie-cutter type restaurant. Beef was well seasoned, chips were fresh and service was great. Will visit again when in the area.

Best Mexican restaurant in Williamsburg by far. Top notch service, authentic cuisine, and a huge portions. We’ve had several conversations with the owner. We’ve been coming here for years and it’s never declined in quality at all. Always delicious, always filling. Truly authentic spot. Also, check out their other restaurant the Smoky Griddle up the street for the absolute best breakfast and lunch in town!

Decided to try this place. Wrong choice. The chips and salsa were lacking flavor. The salsa tasted like tomato sauce. Well I ordered the chimichanga. I regret everything after that. The so called BEEF looks like canned pate cat food. No flavor ...nothing. I couldn’t stomach it. And now I know why cause I am currently very sick from eating here. Battling both nausea, diarrhea and vomiting. I’ll stick to plaza Azteca.

This place is well below satisfactory in everyway..the moment you walk in the entrance door you notice how disgusting the door is from not being cleaned. My family and I sat outside which was nice! However the chips were overcooked-burnt. We asked for a refill of chips hoping they would be better and never got them. Asked for a spoon, never got it. Asked for napkins 3 times before getting them. Sangria was embarrassingly poor. Built my own combination for a meal. Had to retrieve waitress because she never asked if everything was alright, which of course wasnt..got chicken enchiladas when I ordered cheese..twice. the cheese enchilada then was gritty with hardly any cheese. The chicken in my incorrect enchiladas was dry and the rice was bland..the only good thing is the waitress saw my displeasure and only charged me for 2 piece combination..it was a terrible experience all around and we will NEVER go back or recommend this place.

The food was not very good here!If you go there just have a little patience because most of the staff fluently speak Spanish and not very much English! I wanted homemade tamales however they bring theirs in Frozen so on that note I wasn't happy! I decided to try 2 Tacos rice and beans, grilled chicken tacos to be exact. The food just didn't taste all that great ! The grilled chicken could have used a little bit more seasoning. If you want mediocre Mexican food for a decent price you can come here.

Foods a notch above most anything in town Spanish wise. Staff seems to always be in a hurry and doesn't pay much attention to you. If you just want a solid meal you won't be disappointed.

Take out you don't get the bag of chips and bean dip you get at the table. What is the difference I am still buying your food? I wish the staff was warm and welcoming. Otherwise the food is great and the margaritas are amazing.

Restaurants are difficult to evaluate because wallets and tastes differ. I thought it was a bit pricey. The burrito was the size of a Taco Bell burrito. I found the salsa hot (why don't they ask how hot you like it?); but my daughter would have found it too mild.To be fair: this is a tourist destination, so everything is more expensive. I won't be back.

My fiance and I come here a lot when we're in the mood for Mexican. The food is always good and prices are reasonable. The chips and salsa taste fresh and I love the bean and cheese dip instead of the usual strange white dip. There's a lot to choose from on the menu but I always want the Monterey Enchiladas. They are great and so are the rice and beans. Service can be a bit slow when they're busy but it's not a deal breaker.

Today I ordered, to go, a Burrito Supreme, shrimp, chicken and beef, for me and a fajita, chicken and steak, for my wife, it was so delicious.....we ate it all which is not normal. Having recently eaten in two other Mexican restaurants in town, I would eat at South of the Border again before them without hesitation. The food was tasty and not too salty as other restaurants food is prepared; we tasted the food not salt. .

Being from Texas we naturally wanted to eat Mexican food. This was not Mexican food. In TX we use cilantro, red onions and jalapeños. They had none of that. The menu had food on it as well as hair. The table was dirty. Service was slow and they were not busy at all. I would not come back to eat here. Very disappointing.

My husband and I enjoyed a great Mexican dinner at South of the Border. It was very cute, very clean. The food was excellent, the staff courteous and helpful.The margaritas are worth another visit real soon. All in all a very nice restaurant.

Good food and OK portion. I like their fajita and strongly recommended it. I got chicken quesadilla last time and chicken did not feel as fresh as it supposed to be and felt like a canned chicken otherwise I would give 5 stars.
